Can you believe summer is already halfway through? Ugh, what a drag! I hope many of you have gotten a chance to get outside and hopefully catch some rays, relax, and maybe get in a good book or two! I sure did this last weekend! I love this time of year for curling up with a good book while taking in the warm, summer air!

This last weekend I went out on the boat and took a book with me that I had just gotten for review. “The Comfort of Black,” a novel by Carter Wilson. When I first picked up this thriller, I thought it sounded like a great plot and couldn’t wait to dig into it. In fact, I was right, it WAS an amazing, have-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller! I first picked this book up on Saturday morning to read and by midnight, I had finished the book! Yep, I read this intense read in just ONE day! I normally am not this fast, although I can get easily caught up in a great read.
Wilson expertly writes this thriller, keeping you sucked in at every single chapter. I did stop for dinner and one other break, but honestly, if you’re looking for a good spot to put this book down and you know, go about your life, forget about it! There is no good spot! Every single chapter will have you glued to the pages, dying to know what will happen next!
The book takes you through so many twists and turns, it has you guessing and wondering “What the hell is going on here?” over and over throughout the book! It was so full of so many surprises I actually gasped out loud a couple of times while reading it! I don’t think I’ve ever been so engulfed in a book, and so utterly delighted by the thrill, that I’ve actually gasped out loud from reading! In fact, when I did let out that gasp in moments of pure shock, it made my husband look over at me a couple of times, wondering what exactly I was reading that was making me react with such shock! He was so intrigued by this, that he actually had me stop and tell him what I was reading, and what exactly was going on that was making me react in such a way! And at midnight that night, after I finished this amazing, dark, deadly read, he had me tell him how it ended too! Now I’m not only shocked by my book but by him wanting to know about it too!
The “Comfort of Black” from the very first page, will have you by the seat of your pants. The first line is chilling to the bone! You find out that the main Character, Hannah, has quite the dramatic past, but is now happily married to a very successful, and seeming, loving, sweet and quiet husband. After a few chapters, you find out her husband, Dallin seems to be harboring quite the secret of his own, one that could put her very life in danger. And it’s not long after that, that it actually does!
I was instantly taken into the world of Hannah as she runs for her life! I soon became intrigued with the Ex-con, Black, who appears in her life nearly from the start, and is with her every step of the way, helping her stay hidden from her husband, dodge his men’s bullets (literally!) as well as helping her to unlock the secrets that will soon help Hannah uncover the truth and piece together the mystery of her present AND her past.
Every step of the way is full of twists and turns, and often times full of very shocking secrets that had me, well, gasping out loud! A few times in this book you get quite the jolt as you uncover the mysteries and shocking details of Hannah’s life and her escape. This incredibly thrilling book tells an engrossing story of power, money, greed, love, danger, and escape, that will no doubt have you sucked into the terror from the moment you pick it up!
This book was such an incredible read, I absolutely could not put it down. I kept turning the pages, hoping to find the answers to these truly intriguing and wildly dark mysteries, waiting to find out what would happen next, worried for Hannah and her safety, and completely engulfed in the stories of her past, her present, and now her future too.
“The Comfort of Black” is a truly exceptionally written thriller that will no doubt have you sucked in from the very moment you pick up the book! The twists and turns will keep you guessing and dying to find out what happens next! Wilson very cleverly entraps your mind and emotions with this well-written and creatively well-thought-out plot.
