6 Awesome Anniversary Ideas for You and Your Spouse

Anniversaries are a special time – regardless of whether it’s your first one as a couple, or you’ve been married for years. Time flies when you’re having fun with the one you love and before you know it, anniversaries can sneak up on you leaving you to feel a little unprepared for what to do. Whilst there is absolutely no shame in celebrating your special day with a nice dinner and time out together, it’s fun to get creative and find new ways to honour the occasion.

It’s not always easy to find the perfect balance between a romantic celebration and one that’s financially smart. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you can’t do something special because you’re on a tight budget, but the truth is – as long as it’s something exciting there’s many things you can do together. We check out a few awesome anniversary ideas for the new love to the happily married.

1. Try Something Different

There’s no harm in doing the usual if you both enjoy it – but that’s not to say that throwing something different into the mix won’t do you both any favours. Think outside the box and look into an experience that will give you both goose bumps. This can be as adventurous as a trip to an exotic island or a ride in a hot air balloon, or as relaxed as a tour, champagne breakfast or cruise. Whatever you decide mixing it up from previous anniversaries can be super exciting. If it’s your first anniversary, venturing away from the “norm” can be a sensational surprise too.

2. Couple’s Pamper Pack – Indulge in a Massage

It’s easy to get caught up in daily routine and stress that we forget time out as a couple is essential. Indulging in a massage or couple’s pamper pack can be the perfect way to unwind and get you in the mood for some drinks and quality time together in the evening.

Stepping into a relaxing day spa with your loved one can help you to leave feeling like a new, revived person. Couple’s packages can range from full body massages to that much needed foot kneading or sexy hot stone massages. You can make an entire afternoon dedicated to a couple’s pamper pack or simply put aside an hour and head out after.

3. Relive Your First Date

This can be a super special idea if you’ve been with your loved one for a while. Reliving your very first date can be the perfect reminder of why you fell in love in the first place and can give you both the opportunity to chat and laugh about the memories you’ve created together.

If you’re not in the same city as where you had your first date, or the place isn’t around anymore doing something along the same lines can still spark the same excitement. First dates are usually relatively inexpensive ones too, so you can celebrate at a reasonable price.

4. Do Something Your Partner Loves (That You Don’t Normally)

Making a sacrifice to do something with your partner that they’re crazy about can be a great way to spend time together and show your appreciation for them. Maybe it’s a concert of their favourite band or a sports game – whatever it is, just be sure you have a good attitude throughout the experience or the strategy won’t work!

Alternatively, if there is a new activity your partner has always wanted to try why not book it in for your anniversary? Perhaps it’s a tandem sky dive or horse riding that you can do together, or pay for them to do it and go with them for support. This way, you’ll get to enjoy sharing the experience with them and probably earn some brownie points in the process!

5. Couple’s Night In – Movie Marathon and Indoor Picnic

You don’t have to spend a fortune on an expensive dinner out in town to wine and dine your love. Instead, create the mood in the comfort of your own home and have a couple’s night in. This is ideal for those on a budget, and gives you the opportunity to be as creative or as simple as you desire.

For an indoor picnic create the perfect setting with candles, a basket of food, a bottle of wine and scatter some rose petals around too if you like. You can combine this idea with a movie marathon too by picking a few of your favourites or ones that hold significant meaning for you both.

6. Renew Your Vows

If you’ve been married for a while, a great anniversary celebration is to honour your commitment with your spouse. If you have the time and budget, you can recreate a smaller version of your wedding to renew your vows (without the public affair) or just indulge in something simple to reaffirm your love and devotion. This can be a great idea for milestone wedding anniversaries; for example at 10 or 20 years.
