Wear Your Life Well: A Style Book By Helene Oseen

With the new year upon us, many of us are working out our New Years resolutions, which often contains goals to get fit or be more healthy. I love a good physical health New Years Resolution, but over the last few years, I’ve decided that maybe a mental health goal is more fitting and something that tends to really stick with me over the year and be something I actually work at. And of course, being a stylist and fashion blogger, I love some good style and fashion goals too!

I recently came upon a fabulous book that so meticulously and beautifully intertwines both wellness and style for the new year. “Wear Your Life Well” by Helene Oseen is a quick read but one that will stay with you! This book is fabulous for the fashionista but works well for anyone who would love a few good style tips. Oseen delivers fantastic tips for easily achieving great style without spending a fortune, and also some fabulous lessons on the journey to becoming your truest self. I absolutely love this. Being a graduate in Psychology, I have always loved some inspirational self-help books but oftentimes find them to be a bit overdone and tiresome. I wouldn’t classify this book as a traditional boring self-help book, it provides some great guidance for accepting and loving yourself, and finding your beauty on both the inside and the outside, but with words and stories that really grab you and inspire you!

I was overcome with emotion while reading this wonderfully written book on life and style. This book offers some beautiful advice for helping you accept, love, and just be yourself. It is a beautiful goal and discovery we should all hope to reach and this book offers some amazing tips for getting there and feeling good about yourself.

The book is as quick read but one that will grab your attention! I sat down to start it and ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting! It only took a few hours, but I loved the positive message this book gives so much, that I didn’t want to stop reading it! I wanted to soak up all the beautiful and lovely messages this book has to offer. It has beautiful moral lessons that are emotional, gripping, and practical too!

Through my own reading, I found myself filled with gratitude. I have been through many of the save situations the author has and am still dealing with a lot of it (a nasty divorce to a man who was not so good to me) and reading Oseen’s own experiences, which she so bravely tells in this book, gave me so much hope that things will work out for the best for me too. Also being a stylist, I loved reading about Oseen’s journey through the world of professionally styling women, and I also found myself excited with her success and looking forward to the future and dreams I’m hoping to achieve in the world of styling myself.

This novel is a beautiful read and this is a book I know I will be coming back to again and again. It truly spoke to my heart. I sat the book down after finishing the last page, feeling so happy to be me, so excited for the future, and so grateful for the present.

Helene Oseen is an ambassador for women and it’s easy to see her passion and mission to inspire after reading this book. Her words are so encouraging and uplifting, and her advice and fashion therapy are perfectly wise, perfectly honest, and so very true. She really feels like your best friend through her expert words and a is true advocate for helping you achieve your dreams and to become the best you.

While the holiday season is over, this book is must read and a great one to keep on your radar for a fabulous gift for any woman in your life! It is motivating, encouraging, and full of great advice both for style and for life!

“Til The End” by Joseph Patrick 33 with Dennis Lowery Book Review

December 13, 2016 by MyStyleSpot Leave a Comment

I love a good book I pick up and can’t put down, and end up reading all in one sitting! I recently came across “Til The End” by Joseph Patrick 33 with Dennis Lowery, and this book was read just that way! I couldn’t put it down!

The book is unlike any other book I’ve ever read. I’m usually more into psychology, self-help, self-improvement, non-fiction books being a graduate in Psychology,  but I love a good book of murder, thrill, and suspense every now and then. This book isn’t your typical suspense novel though, its actually very different from what you’d expect, but that is exactly what I loved about it.

The book goes deep as Patrick takes you into the behind-the-scenes look of what its like living with a dark secret, dealing with addiction, and the lies, secrets, hiding of information, guilt, and shame that goes right along with it.

The book is dark, yet very though-provoking and still kept me on the edge dying to know what would become of four high school football teammates/friends who find their lives turned completely upside down one night after partying to forget about the game played earlier that night. A life is lost, other lives go spinning out of control as the characters make a fateful choice, and learn to deal with such a dark secret.

Many of us have our own secrets, some darker than others. This book gets you thinking about what kind of secrets are worth keeping secret and what are best let out in the open, confessed, apologized, and paid for. Patrick tells a great compelling story that is extremely tense and best of all, gets you thinking about friendship, loyalty, choices and the consequences that follow.

I loved reading this book and couldn’t put it down! The suspense and unpredictability, as well as intense thought-provoking that comes out of this beautifully written, dark novel kept me hooked “Til the End!”

7 Mind & Body Techniques to Relieve Stress That Actually Work

November 9, 2016 by MyStyleSpot Leave a Comment

The elections are here and no matter which side you are on, you are probably undergoing some stress.

“Getting rid of stress is not that hard to do,” says Santa Barbara-based natural health specialist Dr. Kathy Gruver. “You can choose your response to stress.  You can learn to let it go.”

Dr. Gruver, author of Conquer Your Stress with Mind/Body Techniques, says, “We can’t control what is outside of us.  What we can do is change what we think and what we do with our bodies. The choices we make determine the outcome. By choosing wisely, we can be healthier, stronger and lead less stressful lives.”

Dr. Gruver says, “Every major area of our lives offers us the opportunity to make conscious choices that have a significant effect on how we feel, how we look, and what we can accomplish.  Your mind and body are yours and you get to decide what you have them do. You can take charge of stress any time you want.”

“We have to realize that stress is not really the problem; it’s our reaction to it. As soon as we learn to control our reaction, the stress isn’t as detrimental to us.  We create our own stress with thoughts. We think about 60,000 thoughts a day and 50,000 are negative.  Our brain can’t tell the difference between what we’re thinking about and what is really happening; this is why we have to be very careful what we’re daydreaming and fantasizing about.”

Here are some of the numerous mind/body techniques to reduce and control stress:

1. Control Your Reaction to Stress! You have the power. You have to choose to exercise it. Realize that stress is not the problem. Our reaction to stress is the problem. Learn what you need to do to control your reaction. As soon as you gain control, stress is no longer detrimental.

2. Out with the Bad and In with the Good.  Say No to Negatives. Don’t create your own stress. Push the negative thoughts away. Always have a list of good, positive ideas, pictures, and things you love nearby. Whenever a negative though comes up, choose to push it away and choose to focus on the good and the positive. So, rather than saying “I’m not getting sick,” say, “I am healthy and well.” This boosts the immune system and stops the cycle of negative thinking.

3. Direct Your Daydreams! Take control of your mind and body. Focus on the things you want to see happen in your life. If you find your mind wandering, acknowledge it, and then push it away! Focus on what YOU want it to focus on instead. Visualize actively! Draw, doodle, write poems, do whatever turns you on and helps you turn your ideas into plans, plans into actions, actions into reality. Change your life and your health for the better.

4. Take Baby Steps! Get Healthier Slowly and Steadily. Use the healthy activities that you already do in your life as a mind/body practice. Things like yoga, tai chi, massage, running, dance can all be used as a meditation.

5. Do Mini-Meditations Several Times a Day. Think you’re too Type A to mediate? You can now! There are simple mini-meditations that take just a few minutes to learn and can be done anywhere. They erase the stress response and help return our stress hormones and chemicals to normal. If I can do it, you can do it!

6. Pay Attention To What Your Body Is Telling You. Often, the body parts that are misbehaving are hinting at our stress. Do you feel like your hands are full and then develop carpal tunnel? Who is the pain in your neck? Are you shouldering the burden or feeling like you can’t stomach something? Observing these common phrases can be the key to identifying and releasing our stress.

7. Don’t Reward Yourself for Bad Behavior.  When you are sick, don’t languish and enjoy being in bed any more than necessary. Don’t soak up the attention and consolation people give you for mistakes, painful experiences, or unforeseen accidents and illness any more than necessary to get back on your feet. There are better ways to get love and attention. Choose health!

Conquer Your Stress with Mind/Body Techniques discusses the history of the stress response and how it affects us today. The book contains practical tips for decreasing the body’s reaction to stress and offers simple techniques to increase your health by lessening your tension. The book is a treasure trove of easy methods that can be done at home or in the office and gives a multitude of choices of professional therapies you can incorporate into your life.
