Summer is rapidly approaching which seems to be the biggest season for hosting dinner parties, especially barbecues. Even though summer is a more laid-back season for entertaining, there are still important dinnerware pieces you’re guests will notice but you will most likely miss. In order to keep up your fab style at your next party, I’m letting you in on some hosting secrets to make sure your dinner table looks as chic as you do (even if it’s just the patio picnic table!)

Pattern has always had a place in the home, but a willingness to mix it up and to play with scale in surprising ways is a new twist on a familiar theme. When designing this playful, blue-green kitchen, it’s the pattern play that really steals the show. In the mix is a feather-motif ceiling, a mosaic backsplash peppered with jewel-toned drops, and a quilted, blue-green banquette.
What makes it all work together? The color of the countertop, a rich, taupey-brown with copper flecks, because it is not the loudest piece in the kitchen, it brings it together in a harmonious way.
Pattern play can work in even smaller spaces like bathrooms, too. In this master bath that looks truly handcrafted, the mix is bold in scale. Large floor tiles are juxtaposed with oversized botanicals and are grounded with a calming, soft blue and cream palette on the walls.
I’ve posted some of the remodeling done to my house over the last five years, and although it’s actually been a couple of years since this Powder Room remodel was done, I think it turned out so unique and cool (and spot on for my modern taste in furniture and design) that I wanted to share it!
We completely ripped out the old ugly beige flooring in this room and had a really pretty light gray luxury vinyl put in (and throughout the whole main level). The vanity and old toilet (that often got clogged- eww!) totally had to go to! Updated with a chic small dark wood vanity I found online at WayFair, and new on-trend bowl sink, the room is starting to come to life.

Showcase fresh bouquets in the cream Lati Vase, hand formed in the Philippines from locally sourced clay. The 12” vessel is glazed ceramic and gives a textured, rustic look to any table.
Bring nature into your living room, bedroom or dining room with the Marcel Teak Wall Art. Teak rectangles fixed to an open wire grid create a modern yet natural design, perfect for creating a calm, organic space.
Crate and Barrel’s Live Edge Large Floor Mirror is the perfect piece for a front foyer or long hallway. Large pieces of live-edge acacia planks line the sides of the 84” freestanding mirror. Comes with hardware that will prevent it from tipping once in place.
These artificial potted plants are designed to look exactly like the real thing, but without the hassle of watering and pruning. The vertical, spiky leaves are handmade and planted in a cement vase. Place them on the floor near an entryway or on a desk for some added sunshine.
