My Spring Makeup, Hair + Skincare Must-Haves

It’s been a brutal winter, but warmer spring weather is finally approaching and I can already tell a difference in my skin and hair! My skin feels a bit less dry and my hair is not so frizzy either (Thank Goodness!) Oftentimes many of us so get wrapped up in our busy lives (Duh!) that we forget to start swtiching up the beauty routine a bit to accomodate new weather conditions and humidity.

Living in a dry part of the USA, and already having dry skin, I notice big changes with the season. I really don’t have to put any thought into changing up my beauty routine, because my skin totally lets me know. Those heavy serums and moisturizers I’ve been using all winter long are all of a sudden feeling much heavier and my skin seems to be screaming at me that it’s time to breathe! I immediately start looking for lighter products that feel barely-there on my skin, yet still are powerful enough to keep the dryness and dreaded skin flaking away.

To help you get a jump on spring weather and the essential updates for your change up in your beauty routine this season, I’ve complied below some of my must have products I immediately turn to as soon as the weather starts warming up.

SPF – This should be used all year long, but I’ll admit, I slack on wearing my sunscreen in the winter. So when spring comes around,  I start searching for a nice lightweight, non-greasy sunscreen of at least SPF 30. Don’t just trust your SPF makeup to be enough either! You need to be applying a sunscreen underneath your foundation, ESPECIALLY if you will be out in the sun for longer than 20 minutes, and come on, who doesn’t want to do that when the weather starts finally warming up!?

A Good Body and Face Scrub –  Winter conditions can wreak havoc on skin, which is why I like to invest in a fabulous body and face scrub each spring to slough off the dead, dry, flaky skin I’ve unfortunately had to deal with all winter. Exfolliatoin is a must all year long (just like SPF) because it brings new skin cells to the surface which not only helps you look younger, but also gives your skin a more radiant, beautiful glow too. I love to extend this to the body for spring since I know shorts and mini skirts are in my near future! The Bliss Fat Girl Scrub is a great scrub to help polish up those gams and leave you feeling more confident and sexy in your skin!

Sunless Tanner and Bronzer – This is kind of a no-brainer. Winter leaves me with some pale skin I would like to brighten up pronto, especially before my skin starts seeing the sun again. I love a good sunless face and body tanner to help warm my skin and give it a nice glow. I don’t know if this is a myth or not either but I swear that having bronzed skin before it sees the sun each spring, helps ward off sunburns a bit better too. But again, PLEASE don’t forget the SPF!

Floral Perfume – A lot of the skincare change ups are pretty essential, a pretty floral perfume probably isn’t, but you know what, I don’t care! I love a new scent for warmer weather. I tend to stick to musky, heavier scents in the colder weather and warm weather always gives me an itch to find something super floral and feminine to wear for those long, warm, evenings I see in the not-so-for-off distance!

A Fun Bright Nail Polish –  Along with a fun new scent, I feel like changing up nail color is kind of a must. Trends always direct us to darker, warmer hues like dark purples and deep reds for winter. I love finding one of the brightest colors I can find to start wearing for spring. I’m currently loving OPI’s Cajun Shrimp nail lacquer. This beautiful bright orangey-red shade is perfect for showing Spring who’s boss!

Smoothing Serum for Hair – My hair is already telling me its ready for warmer weather as I’ve seen less frizz (finally!) I love to get a nice smoothing serum that is really going to tack on the shine to add to my hair for spring and summer. Warmer weather is all about having careless hair, going with the natural waves, and curls, and smoothing serum becomes a must when you start letting your hair air-dry more often.

Lightweight Moisturizer/Serum – One of the biggest changes in my skincare routine for spring is switching up a heavy serum for a lighter serum, and same with my moisturizer and night cream. I want my skin to be able to breathe and I don’t want to worry about extra shine and oil when weather starts to heat up. I love the Michael Todd Mattifying Gel Corrector Serum, which contains Sebuless and Lactic Acid to help even out tone and texture by reducing oil-causing acne, as well as lightening up sun spots.  It also works great for promoting healthier looking, more radiant skin! The gel feels extremely lightweight and my skin absorbs it within seconds. No greasyness or oil, just fresh, plumped, super soft, happy refreshed and hydrated skin!

WaterProof Mascara and a Good Hydrating Cleansing Oil – Waterproof mascara is a no brainer for warmer weather. Nobody wants that crap runnin down their cheeks in the middle of a hot humid day! I switch out my normal mascara for a super intense, dramatic waterproof version. I play a lot in the water when summer comes and the last thing I want to worry about is my mascara. I also tend to lighten up the makeup routine for warmer weather but mascara is my absolute must, no matter what time of year, so I like to invest in a nice waterproof formula that is going to keep the eyes dramatic especially since the rest of my makeup routine will be looking pretty simple.

If you’re going to get a waterproof mascara, a lightweight good hydrating oil cleanser is another must! I absolutely adore the Michael Todd Grape Seed Cleansing Oil which is a moisturizer and cleanser in one! It removes dirt, oil, and makeup (including that super tough waterproof mascara!) AND leaves skin feeling super refreshed and hydrated too! I love that it rinses completely clean without leaving any oily residue! It works great for on-the-go too, where you don’t need water to apply it, just a damp towel for removing the cleanser! The cleanser is super lightweight, yet leaves my dry skin feeling incredibly hydrated afterwards! And that waterproof mascara- Completely gone!

Each skincare routine is different depending on your skincare needs, skin type, and wear you live, so feel free to modify this list to what’s best for you. These are just some of my favorite products that work great for my dry skin when it comes from transitioning from winter to spring. I hope some of these products will help your skin be at its happiest too, like it has mine!

Happy Beautifying!
