I’ll admit, I’m not much of a cook, so anytime I can get some help in the kitchen (and that includes fantastic cooking tools that make me look better!) I’m all over it!
I have never used cast iron before as it always seemed like camping cookware to me, and something you only use over an open fire! I was actually really surprised to learn that Cast Iron can be used for tons of different methods of cooking inside or outside! In fact, you can even bake with them! They can be used for braising, grilling, sauteing, broiling, frying, and searing too! I personally love how you can move it right from the stove top to the oven, and this awesome cookware can also be used on the grill and of course, over the campfire as well! Cast Iron can also last forever, so you only have to invest once in a good set and you can pass it down from generation to generation!
I got to try out an awesome (and totally affordable!) cast iron set over the last few weeks, from Crucible Cookware. The set includes 4 skillets (from big to small) and Large and small silicon pan holders to protect the hands while cooking! This set is super high quality and comes pre-seasoned (although you may want to season again like I did – never can be too careful!) When a cast iron pan is seasoned, it means that it becomes a non-stick surface, like Teflon but so much better because you don’t have the harmful chemicals coming off it while cooking like you get when using Teflon! This surface makes it incredibly easy to cook with and super easy to clean too. Cast Iron should never be used with soap or an abrasive scouring pad, nor should it be set out to air dry. Just quickly give it a good rinse after using and wipe down and dry with a paper towel, and you’re good to go! It couldn’t be easier, which makes it a great set for the lazy cook too- which you know I am!
