Michelle Rene Elam, the department head of hair on CW’s Jane the Virgin, is sharing her TV styling secrets for creating the hair seen throughout the show’s 4th season. Michelle is available for other interviews on styling as well. Thank you for considering her!
Backstage Hair Secrets & Styling Tips from the Hairstylist on CW’s Jane the Virgin
Season 4 has been filled with stories that are keeping us on our toes. Jane is finally moving on after the loss of Michael and has found new and old love. We began the season with her fresh new sporty fun style that she is now growing out. She has found herself reaching for a little of her old self for comfort from all the changes.
I keep her hair in good shiny condition by using White Sands Liquid Texture Spray (available in Medium & Firm) as a heat protectant and the strong hold, Firm version for her growing waves. I finish her off with White Sands Orchids Oil or an argan oil.
When she imagines herself as one of her storybook characters, wild versions of her appear. From pink/blonde hair to high long ponytails, I keep it in place with I.C.O.N. Done Finishing Spray.
Keeping up with Jane is Petra, whom once the villain of the show has tried to change her ways and be a smart business woman. Her golden locks have softened but as the story turns she will soon sport a very chic look. I double up products using a shine protectant spray over the top of White Sands Liquid Texture Medium Thermal Spray to seal her curl in best. That product cocktail allows her hair to flow all day without need for hairspray.

Celebrity Hairstylist Gregory Russell styles Lily James for the 2018 Golden Globes Red Carpet
Lily James’ hair made a romantic statement last night for the 2018 Golden Globes.
Inspiration: Gregory was inspired by Lily’s statement-making, black Valentino gown to create a soft and graceful updo that compliments the ruffled neckline and low back.
Ugh, frizzy winter hair! It’s enough to drive anyone nuts! Did you know a tool as simple as a brush can completely ward off the frizz?! I know, right?! I had no idea! The Bibtim Round Twill Brush has an amazing upgraded round twill design (instead of the regular straight up and down bristle design you find on most brushes) designed specifically to help straighten and curl hair. It’s built strong, grips hair better, so you’re better able to pull it through your hair while blow drying. Thanks to the round twill design, it comes right out of your hair when you get to the ends instead of getting stuck in it! Blow drying just became a whole lot easier!
This awesome brush is also made of 100% natural boar bristles, which helps evenly distribute natural oils throughout the hair, leaving hair glossier, shinier, smoother, softer, more lustrous, and overall – healthier! And guess what else? Completely frizz-free! Yay!!
If the boar bristle and round twill design weren’t enough, the brush also has a ceramic barrel that helps better distribute heat through hair while blow-drying, so you’re blow drying time will be cut in half, and of course, your hair will suffer much less damage – but be sure to still use that thermal spray before blow drying to help protect it! You’ll also get a ton more volume with this fabulous technology too! [Read more…]
Sherri Hill’s Spring 2018 Collection premiered during New York Fashion Week at Gotham Hall on September 12, 2017, showcasing the power of reds, the softness of pastels, and the shimmering swing of fringes. With BioSilk Haircare taking center stage as the show’s official hair sponsor and styling team, models walked the runway with their natural curls and sensuous, soft “bounce back” waves.
Models included the newly crowned Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere, Miss USA Kára McCullough, Corinne Foxx, Nala Wayans, Josie Canseco and Alyvia Alyn Lind. Special Guests included Jamie Foxx, Niki Taylor and Keenan Wayans.
Farouk Systems Global Artist Tammy Mixon was on hand to create each model’s look which captured healthy, shiny looks that moved with the flow of each design. According to Tammy, “The hair needed to compliment this year’s collection with soft, “bounce back” waves that were touchable and moved with the flow of each dress. Using BioSilk Haircare allowed us to accomplish the perfect loose curl that danced with each strut.”
Sherri Hill Spring 2018 Collection Hair How To:
1.To achieve soft, shiny, moveable “bounce back” curls, begin with BioSilk Volumizing Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner.
2. Prior to styling, add BioSilk Silk Therapy Original to the hair for condition and shine.
3. When styling, spray the hair with BioSilk Hot Thermal Protectant Mist. It is a versatile styling product for creating sleek, wavy or curly looks.
4. Use the BioSilk Titanium 1″ Styling Iron to achieve “ribbon-like” waves by feeding the hair into the iron like curling a ribbon with scissors.
5. Next, randomly select sections and use one of the four BioSilk Titanium Curling Iron options. Depending on the model, Tammy picked the ¾”, 1″, 1 ¼” or1 ½” size to provide multiple options for extra definition.
6. To style curls, Tammy used her fingers as combs to loosen, plump and arrange as she sprayed BioSilk Finishing Spray Natural Hold to keep the style long-lasting.
7. For that spotlight finish, spray BioSilk Shine On for added sheen and sparkle.
