2020 Hair Trends: Using Ayurvedic Herbs for Sleek & Shiny Hair

Does your hair have the winter blues? It may be time to start incorporating Ayurveda herbs into your hair routine.

If you’re unfamiliar with the term Ayurveda herbs, you may be surprised to know you’re probably already using an Ayurvedic herb every time you use coconut oil.

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term that translates to “knowledge of life” and relies on using natural ingredients that fight common issues with our health. Many are anti-fungal and anti-bacterial so the benefits are immediately obvious: cleaner, healthier hair.

Coconut oil is probably the best known for it’s sealing properties for hair and whether you enjoy – or avoid– the heavier hair product, there are actually many other herbs that can use to treat and heal everything from dry, frizzy hair to many common scalp issues, including dandruff, alopecia and hair fall.

Here are three herbs you should start using for healthier hair and scalp:

1.Amla, like coconut oil is another one that’s growing in popularity and here’s why: It’s lighter than most hair oils on the market and it’s incredibly effective. Even to the naked eye, you can see immediate results. Scientifically, Amla has many benefits, particularly when applied to the scalp and used to fight hair loss.

According to the Hindawi Journal, when combined with other Ayurvedic herbs like Brahmi, Hibiscus, and Fenugreek, test subjects had an 89 percent increase in the number of hair follicles after just 10 days. Overall, Amla also infuses moisture into the hair by sinking into the hair shaft and not sitting on top.

2. Neem: If you’re fighting an itchy scalp, neem should be your go-to. It’s great for winter itch, dandruff, and overall scalp health because of anti-fungal/bacterial properties. Additionally, if you massage your scalp with its oil, combined with the increased blood circulation, it can also help your hair grow at a faster rate and prevent overall hair fall and loss by keeping the follicles clearer. And, the anti-bacterial/fungal properties are so strong that some experts even recommend it as an organic and safe way to fight lice.

3. Shikakai: This superfood for your hair is great for all-around health and protection. Vitamin C is great for your scalp, healthy and the antioxidants can keep free radicals from damaging your hair. It’s so powerful that the frequent use of Shikakai can even keep your hair from graying prematurely.

Overall, it adds incredible shine and moisture, making your hair less prone to tangle and frizz, adding a sheen that comes from within the shaft.
