Let’s Start Enjoying Breakfast Again

Breakfast, we are constantly told that it is the most important meal of the day. Why is it, then, that so many of us skip having an actual meal in favour of a measly snack bar and caffeinated drink? It’s not healthy and, more importantly, it just isn’t that satisfying.

For many, the reason for skipping breakfast is because of time. Not getting up early enough to allow time to prepare and eat breakfast before leaving for the day is a terrible habit to fall into and, while you may cherish that extra half hour in bed, nothing prepares you for the day ahead like a nutritious meal.

Make Time for Breakfast

Understandably, convenience food is the pick of the day for many who already contend with busy mornings before setting off for work and/or the school run. What if, though, the healthy option didn’t mean slaving in the kitchen for an hour to serve up a meal?

Cereal and wholegrain options make for easy options that, when added with fruits such as berries, are a delicious start to the day. Alternatively, scrambled eggs take no more than just a few minutes to prepare and are a terrific source of protein that sets you up for the day.

You will appreciate it when you take to your desk, not counting down the hours until lunchtime because it is 9am and you are already starving.

Coffee Instead of Energy Drinks

We all need that shot of caffeine in the morning in order to function properly, don’t we? Be honest, are you more likely to sit down with a luxury cup of coffee, or tackle your commute with a can of something over-advertised named after an animal? If it’s the latter, then you need to stop and stop immediately.

It cannot be overstated just how bad for your health regularly consuming energy drinks is for your health. They put your heart under serious pressure, pumping blood around the system at an accelerated rate, which likely results in defects will further along the line.

Coffee is a much healthier means of giving our bodies the caffeine boost they so badly crave and, let’s be honest, it tastes so much better. A cup of your favourite blend is the perfect accompaniment to a decent breakfast in the morning. Why not check out this site for premium blends that are compatible with your coffee machine, so as you can enjoy a heart-warming cup without much effort at all.

Breakfast and Exercise

One of the most common questions that people ask is should you eat breakfast before or after a morning workout? While you don’t want to exercise on a full stomach, you also need to give your body fuel before taking on a session.

Some light fruit and a smoothie before you head out for a run or a hard gym session will give you sufficient energy to work up a sweat. Help yourself to a proper meal ideally within an hour of finishing your workout to replace calories and electrolytes.

In order to burn as many calories as possible we must give our body fuel in order to kick-start our metabolism, as well as ensuring that we are well-prepared to give it our all.

Lighter Lunch

When we make the time to have a decent meal at breakfast, it will help to control the urge to eat a massive lunch to compensate. While we may be taking on the same amount of calories, when you eat breakfast you are giving your body more time to burn calories and fat.

This is why the later you eat the more likely you are to put on weight. By spreading your intake more evenly throughout the day, you become more productive and promote a healthy lifestyle that you will soon notice the benefits of.

Happy Eating!

  1. I agree. We have a big breakfast with all the works every chance we get. The weekends are best to sit and catch up with the family news.
