Finding the perfect gift for someone special is hard at the best of times, and even more so when you’ve run out of ideas and overdone the flowers and chocolates.  

 
Your bank account may give you limits, crafting may not be your forte and expectations could be high – but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a gift to ‘wow’ them with.
 
Going down the DIY track can be fun, memorable and friendly on the wallet but does your loved one really need another cute mix CD? Regardless of the occasion and whether you’ve spent years together or weeks, we check out some innovative gift ideas you haven’t thought about to give your partner a unique present that’s pretty much close to perfect.
 
 
1. Date-of-the-Month Membership

 
Date nights together are normally fun, but why not add a little extra spice into by giving your loved one a date-of-the-month club membership? This is a perfect idea if you’re bank account is looking a little sad and can buy you some time before you top it up again.
 
Grab 12 envelopes and think of 12 amazing date ideas. Go beyond what you normally do together and the standard movie or dinner night and get those creative juices flowing. Maybe it’s an adventure to get your adrenalins pumping or a romantic evening they wouldn’t expect. Write down the details of each date on separate pieces of paper and give them to you lover in the sealed envelopes.
 
If you really want to intrigue and have them wondering, only give them the date, location and what they should wear for the occasion. On the front of the envelope write the date (one for each month) so they know when to open it. Not only will this mean you’ve planned 12 exciting and different dates, but it will give yourself some time to save up for them too!  
 
 
2. Ace of Hearts
 
Let your creative streak run loose with a DIY gift that will top the mix CD idea you’ve already done. You don’t have to be a crafty person to make this one and it will definitely win you points for imaginative thinking.
 
Grab a deck of cards and a punch a hole in the top corner in the same position for each card. On the back, write something you love about the person or your favourite memory (you can do a 52 things I love about you card book or 52 favourite memories). You can either write directly to the card or onto some plain paper which can be glued into the middle of the card.

 

 

If you want to take it a step further, trim photos to fit onto the cards where some space is. Then, bind the cards together like a spiral-bound book by feeding the hole-punched cards through a key chain.
 
 
3. Breakfast in Bed
 
Now breakfast in bed is by no means a new trick in the relationship book, but it’s definitely one no one could get tired of. Instead of doing something standard or cooking the same big breakfast you’ve always cooked, mix it up with a fun theme depending on the occasion or try a new recipe. Here are some tasty treats you can try!
Breakfast in bed gives your partner the perfect excuse to lay back and relax and is a great idea for not needing to break the bank. Make the morning extra special by combining breakfast with, a massage or a morning away from the kids.


 
4. A Trip Down Memory Lane
If you’ve been with your lover for a while, the details of how and where you first met can start to get a little hazy.  Even if the relationship is fairly new, every couple has a history and sometimes it’s nice to take a trip down memory lane and relive the moment.
 
Pick a day you’re both free, it can be the day of their birthday or special event, and recreate some of your favourite memories with that person. Dig into your memory bank and pick a handful of locations, where your first date was or where you met and create the perfect excuse to reminisce.

Add some spice into your love life and surprise you partner with a coupon book to use whenever they feel like. Whilst it’s not exactly an earth-shattering present when it comes to creating unique gifts, love coupons can be super fun and a great way to express your feelings towards each other and the best part is, they don’t have to all be for them.
 
The coupons can be filled with funny, romantic, sexual or friendly ideas to be redeemed when your loved one decides. You can create your own coupon book with things you know you’ll both enjoy or you can purchase a pre-made one.
 
To make a fun game out of the present, you don’t have to give them all your coupons at once. Tear some out and hide them in various places to use once they are found by your loved one.  Just remember, these messages act as promise from you to your lover so whatever they pick, make sure you live up to it.
 
 
6. Room Décor
 
There is something pretty spectacular about walking into a room that’s bursting with colour and screams fun. Regardless of your age, feeling as excitable as child on a special occasion is one we all love to experience over and over again. 
 
Surprise your loved one by decorating their room with balloons and streamers to really go out with bang. If the special occasion is Valentine’s Day, you can add some romance by including some rose petals, candles and massage oil too. If you want to take it a step further, you can write messages, love notes or funny memories onto some paper and tie them to the balloons for them to walk round and read. Your partner will definitely feel like you’ve put the effort in and it would be an exciting start to their special day.
