The holiday season is upon us and while a lot of us might be thinking about that next great gift to get your significant other, others might be thinking more along the lines of style.
That’s right, as well as all the obvious festivities, there is something of a go-to list of requirements when it comes to dressing the part over Christmas. Still confused? Let’s delve straight into the topic and find out what style tips you really should be following over the course of Christmas.
An overcoat could be your best friend
If you take to any major shopping district, you’ll probably see countless overcoats. This is for good reason; this is one of the most important pieces of a male wardrobe as soon as winter descends.
Far too many guys will take to a party in perfect attire; they will have an ironed shirt, polished shoes and get out their best tie. The only problem is, they then cover all of this up with a ski coat, or something else which just doesn’t stick to the style guidelines.
An overcoat solves this issue. Not only does it go with most garments, and makes you stand out for all the right reasons, but it’s also warm. In other words, you’re not sacrificing any comfort whatsoever.
Seasonal ties are a no-go
We touched on ties in the previous section, but in terms of what not to wear, a seasonal tie definitely tops this list. In fact, while we’re at it, let’s include socks in this list.
Sure, more and more guys seem to be turning to these items, but trust us, it’s not doing them any favors in the slightest. It might give you the comedy value, but today’s article is all about style and this doesn’t do anything in that regard.
The shoe-rule still applies
What do we mean when we talk about the shoe-rule? Well, apparently at least, you can tell a lot with what a man wears on his feet. Even in the festive silly season, where all sorts of garments step out, don’t fall into the trap of neglecting your feet. Choose some men’s Chelsea boots like these to retain a degree of elegance.
Shop around for dark trousers
Even if you’re usually the type of guy who turns to lighter colored trousers, when it comes to the festive season you should be looking to consider something a little darker.
This all relates to snow. Sure, the Christmas cards might depict snow as this perfectly white substance, but we all know different. It tends to turn to something that’s pretty muddy relatively quickly, and this doesn’t do your outfit any favors in the slightest.
Take advantage of the right fabrics
Finally, let’s end today’s article about the type of fabrics you should be turning to. The pure coldness that your body is about to be put through means that you should be looking to layer whenever possible – and two fabrics which can provide you plenty of benefits in this regard is cotton and wool.
In the case of cotton, this needs to be worn close to your body. It’s something that will allow heat and moisture to pass through it, meaning that it’s light but also completely breathable. Then, when it comes to the garments a little further away from your skin, opt for wool. This is a fabric that retains heat very well, meaning that for jackets or overcoats it’s an absolute no-brainer.

I love a nice-looking overcoat. It really completes the outfit.
Great tips! Nothing is more cliche then a seasonal tie!
I am loving the outfit looking good
I am liking this overcoat. It looks stylish and distinguished.
A lot of great information here….. BUT a lot of guys don’t have a overcoat. Sometimes I think the kind of work that a man does decides what clothes he has in his closet.
Dark trousers, a button up shirt and sports jacket is the way to go. Perfect for the holiday season.
