An Absolute Must Read for all Women: #RichBitchBook by Nicole Lapin Review

If you’re reading this, you’re probably a major fashionista who loves her shopping, just like I do! And maybe like me, It’s also gotten you into some trouble with your finances, er you know, you’re credit card!
Most of us have been there unfortunately. Why wait and buy later when I can buy now and pay later! After all, it’s kind of the American Way, but it doesn’t have to be! And it shouldn’t be!
I recently came across the most fabulous book on Finance. I know, I know, Finance?! Who wants to read about that! That’s what I would’ve thought too, but when I came across this fabulous book by Nicole Lapin (a Successful Financial Journalist and Financial Expert) who wrote a book just for Women, and how to get a hold of their finances, I was actually really interested in finding out more. Especially after reading all the testimonials from many influential people and celebrities.
This might sound like a book that is just going to lecture you about how to save your money and to quit spending on those credit cards, but while that may be part of it, that is actually far from what you will get out of this book!
Lapin takes you through 12 steps for helping you get your financial life together. It’s not just the nit and grit of saving, spending, and god forbid, budgeting, but through her fabulous wit and humor she teaches you how to take control of your life, and helps you feel empowered by learning more about finances and how to even speak the language like a pro too! Yeah, see her glossary in the back of the book for every financial term you could ever think of! (Compound Interest anyone? I’m sure I’m not the only one who had no idea what that meant, nor how it can work in your favor!)
Lapin, who I have to admit I have a total girl crush on after reading this book, gives it to you straight! She is a girls girl, and her funny, uplifting words will really light the fire under your bum to get you working towards a better financial household, while also making a book about finance, believe it or not, a really delightful read! She talks to you like you’re her closet friend and you can she wants to help you out as much as she possible can. It’s easy to put your trust in her right away, especially as the book takes you through her own life stories (both success an failure). You feel an incredible rapport right away with her because she has been there, probably made a lot of the same mistakes you have, but has figured out how to turn things around and then passes that knowledge onto you to really empower you to take control of your finances and your life!
Lapin teaches you how to go after you want. My personal favorite section was in chapter 5, where she teaches you negotiating skills and even gives you the conversation to use for getting a car at a price you want, as well as even lowering your bills!
I also especially loved in Chapter 7 where she teaches you tips and conversation to use with a friend who has borrowed money from you and doesn’t seem to care about giving it back. I think most of us have been here at some point, and I’m betting like me, you’ve just let it go rather than confront her. I love that Lapin teaches you just how to go about asking your friend for your money back in a way that even those who extremely dread confrontation could do (me)!
You will also learn some great tips for how to work the finances with your partner in marriage. After all, I’m sure I’m not the only one dealing with a husband who likes to spend as much as I do. And after all, finances are the most fought about thing in American relationships, so I’m sure I won’t be the only one benefiting from this chapter in Nicole’s book. Not married yet? She teaches you tips on how to sit down and have a conversation (but in a much better way then you have probably tried in the past) with your significant other to make sure you’re on the same page financially so you can avoid big money, tear-causing fights in the future!
Also, did you know that women don’t ask for raises near as often as men, and this could be a big part of why we are still not earning equal pay? I actually learned about this several years ago, so I went and asked my boss for a raise. Unfortunately I failed and was turned down. I wish I would’ve had the knowledge from reading this book before I went in for that meeting. Nicole teaches you just how to go about it, including what to say, once again. I realize now I probably failed because I was completely unprepared. Nicole’s words will give you the confidence and help you prepare yourself for the conversation so that you can hopefully succeed where I failed!
As you can see here, you’re not just getting a book on tips for saving and spending more wisely (although you will certainly get that too!) , but this is an all around great life-book for anything regarding money! You will certainly learn some great financial planning tips in reading this book too though. In fact, I kind of felt like I just met with my own financial planner after reading this book! I feel much more confident about my spending/saving, and planning for my financial future after reading this book. I also learned so much about money, different savings plans, retirements plans, health care, etc, that I didn’t even know about! If you ask me, everyone should read this and be informed, because I’m sure I’m not the only one who didn’t know the difference between a IRA and a Roth IRA for saving for retirement. And that’s just the beginning of what I didn’t know before reading this incredibly insightful book!
Also if even talking about financing stresses you out, trust me, I understand. I’ve been there. In some really bad financial situations myself. Nicole teaches you how to handle the stress so that you don’t get overwhelmed by taking small baby steps and setting goals. I love this idea because goal setting, especially when you reach those goals, can really minimize the stress and help you feel more confident about your current situation. And from my experience, set you up for more success!
Also, I just have to go into the chapter on Investing for a second too. I never though it a million years I would be interested in that, mostly because I knew nothing about it, even what the difference between stocks and bonds were. (And I worked as a manager at an Investment Trading Firm back in Utah- true story!) Nicole breaks it all down nicely and makes it so easy and simple to understand. She also gives some great advice for investing that honestly after I put the book down, I told my husband I was really interested in giving it a try. Then I spat out what I had just read and learned and he was like, “I didn’t know that”.
Lapin really gives you the confidence to move forward with building your financial future! This book is truly a must read for every women, because after all, we all deal with money in some form or another. I now realize before reading this wonderful book that It was ridiculous to keep myself in the dark financially. I’m the daughter of an accountant so I always thought I had a pretty good hold on money, but this book brought many things to light I had never thought of. Not only that, but I really do feel more empowered, more knowledgeable, and more excited about my financial future after reading this!

Rich Bitch is not a book to help you get rich quick, but a book that will help you bring about your richest life, as in being healthy and happy, and living a more stress-free, fulfilled life, because you’ve just learned how to take control of your finances and now have the knowledge to make better decisions that will put on the path to a better well-being!

  1. I try and stick to my budget but when I see something that is a bargain but not inmy budget I sometimes give in and just spend the money telling myself that it is saving me money in the long run cos I bought it on sale this book sounds like a must read for me

  2. I love to shop but since we are in Chapter 13 I have no money to shop with so I enter contests to see if I can win something near that I want. The book sounds great but I don’t need it at this time.

  3. I use to love to shop. Since we have been in Chapter 13 to save our house there is no money to shop so I enter contests.Sounds like amazing book but I don’t need it right now

  4. This book sounds great! My parents didn’t really teach me much about finances growing up, so there’s a lot I have to learn. I love that it addresses stuff like negotiating too. That can be so difficult to figure out.
