In some situations, however, you may need money as soon as possible, or you may not have the best credit for loan qualification. Pawn Shops
At some point in your life you have probably watched a movie or show where someone steals something and then sales it at a dark, sketchy looking pawn shop. In reality, however, most pawn shops are a good place to sell your legitimate items or buy certain items for what is often a cheaper price. For most pawn shops a record will also be taken of either transaction, and for certain transactions your identification will be needed. Also, not all pawn shops sell only used items; many choose to sell new merchandise as well.
To obtain money from the pawn shop, you may usually choose one of two options. First, you can bring in an item to sell to the shop. If the shop finds it to be an item that they would be able to sell, they will buy the item from you. Keep in mind, however, that the pawn broker will also want to make a profit, so you will most likely not receive the full value of the item.
The second option is to offer an item as collateral for a loan. In this case, the pawn shop would give you a certain amount of money, and while you are paying back that money with interest, they will hold an item of equal or greater value to the loan. When you pay back the loan with interest, you will be given your item back. If you fail to pay off the loan within a certain amount of time, the pawn shop will then be allowed to put the item up for sale in their shop.
Consigment Shops
In some situations, a pawn shop in Northern VA may offer the option of consignment. This option would be a good choice for someone who wishes to obtain an amount closer to the full value of the item they are selling, but is also willing to wait longer to receive this money. With consignment, the shop displays your item on sale in their shop, and sales it for you. Many shops may offer this service for a holding fee, or wish for a percentage of the money obtained from the sale.

I can’t remember the last time I was in a pawn shop, but Hubby has bought and sold fire arms through them. I really need to downsize…I should probably think of things to sell!
I personally think there is more to be made at a consignment shop than a pawn shop. Pawn shops are cheap.
