Why is it, that the older we get, the worse we seem to sleep? I was discussing this with my sister and brother-in-law over the Christmas break, as it seems since we all hit our 30’s (and they had children) our sleeping has suffered. I know everytime I’m visiting my mom in Utah, I’m constantly asking her what she is currently taking to get better sleep.
Well I hate to resort to pills. I really try not to take anything chemical anymore, if I don’t have to. And I have a feeling I could very easily get addicted to sleeping pills, in fact when I tried Tylenol PM for sleep, that was certainly so. But taking that stuff on the regular is scary thanks to it containing Acetaminophen.
So I’ve tried to find more natural ways of helping me sleep through the night. Taking a Melatonin supplement is a good place to start, but more importantly, learning to quiet your mind before bed (put down the games, electronics and TV) and turning your bedroom into a quiet, peaceful, sleep-inducting sanctuary is often best.
I’m an extremely light sleeper and thanks to a snoring husband, a couple of cats, and a dog, I often wake to noises throughout the night, and then my mind starts up, and I’m going through my daily to-do-list in my head, and before I know it, two hours have gone by and I’ve been lying in my bed wide awake. Staying asleep is key for me. I’ve found that the best possible way for a light sleeper to do that, is with ear plugs. Yes they can be annoying to use at first, but you really do get used to them and I find I have a hard time falling asleep without them now!
Also if you’re sensitive to sound, you’re probably sensitive to light. I know I am. My bedroom is decorated in soft beige and white, so of course my curtains are white, which looks lovely but is not so great for blocking out light at night, especially when I have a dreaded street light right outside my window in my front yard! A lot of light comes though my room at night, and unfortunately my husband insists on bright alarm clocks, and other electronics that will shine a bright light at night, leaving me absolutely annoyed. I also have to keep my door open for cats to move around in and out throughout the night, and thanks to my two HUGE front windows over my entry way, I have a ton of light coming through my door at night too.
When I found the Elusive Dreams sleep mask (which also comes with ear plugs!) I couldn’t wait to give it a try and see if I could finally get some peaceful sleep.
The mask is super soft and yet very lightweight. I love this because I’ve tried heavier duty sleep masks before and they just feel like a heavy weight over my eyes and it distracts me from actually being able to even fall asleep!
The Elusive dreams mask also has extra padding around the nose so you won’t get any extra light coming in the mask from around the bridge of the nose. This also makes it more comfortable for wearing too! The soft satin material of the mask makes it absolutely comfortable when wearing at night, and I love that it comes with an adjustable velcro strap so you can find your perfect fit. It is also not bulky (which I’ve also unfortunately run into with sleep masks in the past) so you won’t have a bulge sticking in the back of your head if like me, you sleep on your back. The strap also comes with a little holder for your ear plugs on the side so you can keep your ear plugs safely stored away with your mask during the day when you’re not using it. After all, there is nothing worse than looking for a lost earplug in your night stand in the dark!
The mask stays on comfortably throughout the night too, even if you tend to toss around a bunch and adjust from side to side, which I often do. I found I got some really great sleep with this mask and earplugs. No light came in and no sound either! I put on my mask and my earplugs, lied down, worked on quieting for the mind for a bit and before I knew it, I was fast asleep. I was also amazed with how little I woke up during the night while using the mask and earplugs from Elusive Dreams (which is extremely rare for me!)
I had an amazing last few weeks of sleep since sleeping with my Elusive dreams mask and earplugs. They completely quiet the noise and get rid of the light! I plan on getting an extra set to keep in my travel back for those dreaded red eye flights! It’s also washable too so you don’t have to worry about keeping your mask clean either!
I’ve absolutely loved using this mask and earplugs and have been so tremendously satisfied with my sleep since using them both. I wake in the morning feeling completely refreshed and full of energy.

I could use this so I can sleep better.
My thoughts keep me awake at night. I can’t shut my brain off sometimes!
My worries keep me up at night! Do they make brain masks?? LOL!
The only time I am really kept awake at night is by loud snoring or when I’m away from home and there are loud noises that I’m not use to, like a railroad track.
My baby!!
The wind
I keep myself up at night. My work is never done. Things I’ve done, things I’m going to do. Whats for dinner tomorrow. Just everything but sleep. I do generally sleep during the day though so this could still be helpful.

My husband’s snoring and my overactive brain
Lots of things, the hallway light, hubby’s snoring, neighbors dog barking and getting up to go to the bathroom.
