How Cleaning your Beauty Gadgets could be the Secret to Looking Your Best

A beauty tool kit is a must for every modern woman. Its contents can vary but we can guarantee you would find it on every female’s dressing table. Makeup and hair brushes, tweezers, razors, shower poufs and curlers are part of every girl’s arsenal. However, ladies should not forget that all these gadgets can turn into hives for bacteria and grime if one does not take the time to properly clean them on regular basis.

Here are some of the most frequently used beauty gadgets and tips how to keep them in good ready-to-use condition:

Makeup brushes can be found on every woman’s dressing table. Makeup artists agree that those should be cleaned once a week in order to keep them in tip-top condition. You can use ready-made brush cleaners or you can try and prepare your own cleaning solution at home. It’s important to use soft soaps or shampoos to avoid damaging the brushes. A simple cleaning solution recipe consists of ½ tbsp of baby shampoo (it’s less aggressive), 1 cup of distilled water and several drops of tea tree oil. Combine the ingredients and store in a small clean bottle. Rub the mixture into the brush and let it sit for a few minutes. Then rinse it with lukewarm water to remove the mixture. If necessary repeat the procedure once or twice to make sure the brush is clean.

Keeping your tweezers, nail clippers and files clean is also a must, since these tools tend to store bacteria. That’s why it’s important to disinfect them after every use. To do so it would be enough to simply dip a tissue in some antibacterial solution and wipe the tool you’ve used. To sterilize your tweezers or nail clippers you can use alcohol in case you don’t have other antibacterial liquids.

Hairbrushes are among the most frequently used beauty tools, hence they need to be taken care of properly. You don’t have to be a genius to figure out that removing hair from your brush is an absolute must. In case you cannot remove all the hairs from the bristles of the brush by hand you can use a small comb to rake it off. Another thing you should consider is getting rid of the grease and dead skin cells that stick to the bristles – in order to do so simply wash the brush with baby shampoo or soft soap. If the grease doesn’t come off easily you can soak the brush into warm water for 10 to 15 minutes and that will do. Then rinse it with clear water and you’re ready to go. Remember – a clean hairbrush will add extra volume to your hair, giving it a nice fluffy look.

Make sure you clean your razors after use as well. If they’re clogged with fuzz and dead skin cells this may lead to skin irritation, annoying rashes and ingrown hairs. To avoid this clean the blades of the razor frequently and rinse them in surgical solution or alcohol. You can also make your own solution to clean them – simply dilute vinegar in water and use the mixture to scrub away the residue with an old tooth brush. Don’t forget to keep your reusable razors in a clean and dry place – this way your legs will always be silky smooth.

It may seem weird that residue can also build up on your curlers and flat irons, but it does. Luckily cleaning those tools is relatively simple. You can use a warm damp cloth to wipe the flat iron; for extra sterilization you can dip the cloth into rubbing alcohol. Whatever you do, make sure you have unplugged the iron to avoid any accidents.

Remember cleaning your shower pouf doesn’t involve only shower-gel. To avoid irritation you should wash it at least once a week after use. Again you can use a mixture of vinegar and water to disinfect the pouf. After you’ve washed it rinse the mixture with clean water, leave the pouf to dry and you’re done.

Following those simple hygiene rules will not only make you feel better about yourself, but will also make you look better as you would avoid getting rashes, infections, skin irritation and ingrown hairs.
