Mother’s Day Gift Guide – 5 Great Ideas your Mum Will Love

Mothers day gift shopping

Let’s face it, mums are hard workers. Between tackling their own job, providing you with endless support all year round and making sure the house is clean with dinner on the table each night they really know how to keep the house (and you) running. Being a ‘mum’ is an occupation within itself. It requires years and years of putting your own interests and needs before hers and there comes a time where we just need to say thanks.

Spoiling your mum this Mother’s Day is the perfect way to do so. And whilst finding the ultimate gift for her will most certainly show your appreciation, it’s no excuse for neglecting mum the other 364 days! Here’s a few great gift ideas your mum will love this Mother’s Day.

1. Treat her with an Experience

Creating new, spectacular memories is one of the best ways to show someone how much you care. Treating your mum with an experience can make her feel fantastic by giving her the perfect excuse to get out and do something for her. Depending on your mother’s interests, you can opt for an indulgent dining experience, a cruise, a wine tasting tour with lunch, a concert or something more adventurous like horse riding or sky diving – if she’s fun like that!

To make the experience truly special, you’ll need to ensure it’s as easy for her as possible. If you have young siblings that still take up her time, arrange to look after them for her. You can plan for her experience to be one she indulges in on her own, or involve her significant other or yourself too.

2. Hobby Inspiration

Every mum has a hobby that helps them to fuel their personality. Hobbies provide a therapeutic way to detach from a long day and do an activity just for yourself. Thus, it can be a good idea from time to time to encourage others to be get involved in their own hobbies.

Give your mum some hobby inspiration by buying her a gift that reflects her character and interests. Bring out her inner baker with a new mixer or buy a new plant for her garden that she can nurture and care for. For many, getting out in the garden can be extremely relaxing so find what will inspire your mum. Many gift stores too offer a variety of hobby-inspired hampers that can include a number of gifts your mum can utilise, whether it be a gardening hamper, cooking or reading.

3. Get Creative and Make Something

There’s nothing like a homemade gift because it really shows you’ve put your heart and soul into it. Remember the days when you would bring a painting home from school you did for mum and how special it was to her? Well, recreating that feeling can still bring a smile to mum regardless of how old you are now!

You don’t have to be a crafty genius to pull this off either. Pinterest is loaded with DIY craft ideas that are very easy to make – even for the beginner. From soothing bath soaks, to body butters, candles, writing journals or photo collages there’s an idea suitable for every mum out there. If all that fails, making your mum breakfast in bed will be sure to kick off her special day in style too. Think mixed berry pancakes with fresh orange juice on the side, eggs benedict for something a little fancy, or breakfast bruschetta complete with spinach and bacon – delish. This article provides some great DIY projects and yummy treats you can use to spoil your mum this Mother’s Day.

4. Encourage some time to Unwind

After years and years of putting her children first, it’s about time your mum has some real time to unwind. Mums tend to be constantly on the go – especially if you still have younger siblings – so encourage her to indulge in some much needed RnR.

Pamper her by booking a home spa treatment, or buy her a voucher for the local day spa. If she’s a wine lover, a yearly wine subscription can most certainly encourage some unwind time, or the music-lover mum may appreciate the gift of silence (from you and your siblings!) with the latest music headphones.

5. Sweet Treats

There’s not many mums out there that don’t enjoy sweet treats. From divine chocolate gifts with carefully thought out packaging, to hampers overflowing with all the goodies you know she’ll love, it’s hard to deny that sweet tooth urge!

Whilst chocolate tends to be the safe bet, you can really impress mum this year with something that truly stands out. This Mother’s Day why not send your mum an edible arrangement of her favourite fruit dipped in chocolate complete with a bunch of flowers? Sending sweet treats and tempting tasty hampers to your mum will make her feel extra special and allow her to indulge in them without saying no. If she doesn’t have a sweet tooth, you can always use this idea to send a cheese and wine hamper or fresh fruit and other treats that don’t have the sugary goodness yet are still super tasty! Complete with a bunch of fresh flowers – you just can’t go wrong.

  1. This is my first mother’s day without my mom and it’s sad to realize that. Do all you can to show your mom how much she means to you. I always spent a lot of time with mine so I have no regrets for that at least.

    1. Plants are great! You can always do something a little different and get her a bonsai tree or a terrariums – they look fantastic when you hang them up in an outdoor entertaining space!

  2. These are wonderful. My sister and I are 40 years old and we still make something creative and DIY for our mom every year on her special day.

  3. My favorite it one is taking time for MUM to unwind. This is a definite must for all the moms out there.
