Working as a fashion blogger, and personal stylist has been a real eye-opener. I have always taken an interest in what people wear and the latest catwalk trends. But, I did not really fully appreciate just how diverse people´s tastes were until I started to work in the industry. The fact I had to be more aware of what people were wearing meant that I started to notice things that had passed me by in the past.
Helps you to personalize your style
There are lots of clever tricks women use to make a fashion trend work for them or to create a look that helps them to stand out from the crowd. One such trick is shopping in the men´s section. It is something that more women are starting to do. Those women who do this end up wearing accessories and items of clothing that most other women have no idea are available.
Men’s clothing really is cheaper than women’s
Most menswear is made from good quality fabrics and is finished to a high standard. Yet despite this, it is often far cheaper than women’s clothing.
A recent study carried out by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) demonstrates this. They found that overall women paid an average of 8% more for their clothes. This does not sound too bad, but the same study found examples some retailers charging women 30% more for t-shirts, 23% more for jeans and 39% more for a cotton shirt. In all of those cases, the products were made from the same type of material and were of a similar style.
Men’s clothing tends to be better made
On top of that men´s clothing tends to last longer. It is generally made from higher quality fabrics. In addition, styling features like double-stitched seams are far more widely used. This means that their clothes hang well, and look good.
Getting ready to buy
So, that is three good reasons to check out the men´s section the next time you shop for clothes. But, there are a few things you need to bear in mind when you do so.
The cuts are different
Many men’s clothes are cut differently than women’s. Take as an example men’s denim jeans. If you are a hippy woman finding a pair that fit comfortably in this area may be difficult. This is because men’s hips are generally narrower than women’s are.
The sizing is different
Men’s sizing is different but in a good way. Inches, or centimeters, are used rather than an obscure sizing system. So, if you know you have a 28-inch waist, and a 30 inch inside leg, you just need to go out and look for a pair of 28/30 trousers.
If you have not tried wearing men´s clothing in the past, now is as good a time as any to try it. Trying on as many clothing items as possible will enable you to quickly identify which items of men´s clothing work for you, and which do not.
Happy Shopping!
