It happened not that long ago – all cozied up in bed, warm and nestled in my super soft, fluffy comforter, eyes barely opening on a bright beautiful Sunday morning, half asleep still, when… I hear a shar “uh, uh, uhhhhh” coming from the hallway outside my door. I’m now fully awake to the sound of my Cat once again Barfing! It’s the fourth day I’ve woken up this way! What in the world is wrong with him, I think to myself. I’ve tried switching out cat foods, I’ve been slow to switch so as not to upset his fragile, easily upset stomach, but the same thing every morning, throwup! I can’t figure it out! I know it has to be from his food as it happens every morning at 7:15 am, right after his automatic cat feeder has dispensed his morning breakfast. I’ve tried feeding him slowly to see if this helps as I have found from my research that some cats just eat too fast and it causes them to throw up. I’ve made sure he has plenty of water, but no matter what I seem to do, the same problem persists… My cat looses his breakfast once again.
I realize this isn’t normal, so I take my two year old full of energy, yellow tabby to the vet. “He has an allergy to grain,” the friendly, over-chipper vet tells me, which I find out is commonly found in most cat foods, even the super expensive ones! Once armed with this news, I ask for some recommendations and start searching local pet food stores, and everywhere I can think of online to find a good, affordable, healthy cat food that doesn’t contain grain, so My Cat’s stomach can finally come to rest.
What I find, is that there are hardly any grain-free cat foods out there. And surprisingly enough, allergies to grain found in food, isn’t that abnormal for a lot of cats. (If your cat throws up on the regular, especially after eating, have him checked by the vet for grain allergies). I finally came across an amazing brand I’ve actually used before when my cat was released from a 3 night stay the year before for eating something that was caught in his stomach and causing him to vomit blood! (I know, my poor kitty has the worst luck!) I was recommended this wet food from the vet, and later realized it was grain-free and thought to myself no wonder he didn’t throw up that week!
I then found and got to try out the Wellness Core Dry Cat Food, which is also grain-free. My cat was a little gassy for a few days as I slowly introduced it to him over the next couple of weeks, but guess what?! No throwing up! His tummy issues seem to be completely gone! I’m so thrilled with how well this cat food keeps my cat’s stomach from getting upset!
Upon reading more about the brand and ingredients, I’m also very happy to find out how healthy and nutritious this food is for my cat! It is also amazing for controlling winter weight-gain, which my cat also seems to have issues with lately!
