Mother’s Day is just around the corner and this year – we’re thinking outside the box. The best thing about mums is they appreciate everything nice you do for them. So, no matter what you choose it’s bound to get them smiling. But instead of opting for the usual fresh flowers and box of chocolates, it’s time to get creative and show how much she really means to you!
Grabbing some last-minute blooms is the easy thing to do for Mother’s Day. Whilst flowers do send a beautiful message and brighten everyone’s day up, it’s nice to change things around too. Like dad always getting the standard socks and tie on Father’s Day, mum deserves to be truly spoilt. We’ve taken some of the hard work out for you and come up with a few unique ideas that’ll show mum how much you care this Mother’s Day:
The Gift that Keeps Giving
Mother’s Day hampers are a fantastic choice because they just keep giving. Depending on what you choose, most hampers are loaded with different goodies that’ll take mum a good few weeks (or months!) to get through. Some of the gifts can even be kept, used and appreciated for years to come. Hampers can be personalized by what your mum loves and opens her taste buds to a whole new world of treats. Think gourmet delights, sauces for cooking, relaxing tea time indulgences and other favorites mum will love.
Some hamper companies allow you to create your own hamper too from their list of products and treats. This way, you can put the time and effort into crafting something special and unique for mum. Make sure you find a hamper company that does Australia-wide delivery, be sure to check ETA’s and order sooner rather than later, so mum gets her goodies in time!
Something Personal
If you want to step this year’s present up a level, opt for something personal. Paying attention to details is key to finding something great here. Perhaps mum mentioned something a few months back that would be special to her? Is she due for a new piece of jewelry – a nice watch, charm for her bracelet or a pair of earrings she can wear out on special occasion? You can even get something engraved so she can treasure it for years to come.
Personal can be tricky, but if you’re close to your mum and know what she likes it’s easy to find something that will hit the sweet spot. Speak to siblings for ideas and consider all pitching in for a personal piece that has that ‘wow’ factor. Don’t forget – personal doesn’t always mean jewelry either. If she loves wine, a new set of wine glasses with a personalized message engraved on them can be a great idea.
The Gift of Time
As we get older and live busier workaholic lifestyles, the simplest things can be taken for granted. We may not spend as much time with someone we care about – especially if you don’t live together. This is where the gift of time can be exceptionally thoughtful for Mother’s Day. Instead of just planning the usual get together for the day, free up a time you can do something special with her one-on-one. A pamper day or something adventurous can be a great idea!
On the flip side, you can give the gift of time by giving mum a break! Encourage her to put her feet up and stop for the day, go out with her girlfriends for lunch or have a dinner outing with her partner that she never seems to have time for. Especially mums with little ones, the opportunity to just get out and have someone ‘take over’ for a few hours can be the best treat.
Wine and Dine Her
We all love to be spoilt by being taken out somewhere special. Wine and dine mum this year and take her to her favorite restaurant or a trip to the local wineries for the day. Not only does give the gift of time, but it shows you pay close attention to what she loves too. Book a new place to try you know she’ll enjoy, or an old favorite she hasn’t been to for a while. Make sure you cover everything – the food and drinks and getting there and home again.
Get Creative
Make Mother’s Day memorable for mum by going back to your childhood. Remember those school days when you would make something in class for Mother’s Day? Maybe it was a tea mug, a painting or a potted plant for the garden. Whatever it was, mum would’ve loved it because YOU made it. This year, think outside the box and get those creative juices flowing again!
Whether it’s a personalised photo album you’ve created with memories and good times she can reminisce through, a framed photo collage for the wall or something outdoorsy, it’s a fun task to do. Pinterest is a great place to start for ideas if you’re at a loss of what to make. Mini succulent gardens or a vertical garden are easy ones if she loves her plants or get crafty with wine barrels or recycled wine bottles for the wine lover. You can even get creative in the kitchen too.
My old mom is bed-ridden for most of the day, sadly. I am her caregiver. But as far as wining and dining her, we will order from her favoraite restaurant!
