How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Things you will need:

  • Castile soap (other mild organic soap or baby shampoo)
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • A flat surface
  • A dry towel
  • Paper towel
  • Your makeup brushes

What to do:

Step 1: Soak your brushes in warm water. Add a squirt of soap to your palm, grab one brush and swirl it around. Be gentle and nice as you don’t want to damage the item.

Step 2: Rinse the brush.

Step 3: Inspect the brush to see if it is all clean. If it isn’t, repeat the steps.

Step 4: When you make sure the brush is clean, place it on a clean dry towel and let it sit.

Step 5: Proceed to cleaning all your brushes.

Step 6: Lay flat all makeup brushes. Grab a paper towel and wipe down all the handles. Then rinse and wipe dry. Leave the brushes on the towel.

Step 7: The final step is to clean your make up containers. HouseCleaning Ealing will teach you how to do it. Take a wash cloth and wet it with rubbing alcohol. Wipe down the containers and let dry. Job done.

Additional Tips:

  • Make sure to stick with unscented non-toxic dish soap or baby shampoo. Harsh substances can damage your makeup brushes, this is why you have to be wise.
  • Always work one brush at a time.
  • When you are wetting or rinsing your brush, ensure that the bristles are facing down the sink.
  • Always lay your brushes flat to drip dry. Don’t stand them up. If you want to dry the items vertically, go with a brush rack available at stores, but make sure the bristles are facing down. Also, keep away from countertops. The best thing to do is to place the rack over a towel on a table.
  • Create a small cleaning routine for your brushes. Let’s face it, you can hardy find time to clean your brushes on the daily. Our advice is to clean them once a week or every couple of weeks. This is far better than no cleaning at all.

Why it is Important to Clean Your Makeup Brushes Regularly

When you are sick (or not) you may transfer bacteria and germs onto your makeup brushes. The next time you use your brushes, they will be contaminated. This will spread germs back onto your face, causing skin problems, acne, itchy eyes, etc. It is important to realize that makeup brushes collect all sorts of nasty, goopy stuff such as oil, sweat, germs, dead skin, makeup residue and dirt. Yup, sounds yucky. And it probably feels even worse once you get watery, itchy or sensitive eyes, acne and other problems you weren’t expecting. So, don’t skip over your brush cleaning routine.

And there you go, those are our tips to deep cleaning your makeup brushes. Just go ahead and wash all the items you use to make your face look flawless, and you will be fine.
