Forget Going to the Salon for fun Hair Color! Redken Color Rebel Hair Makeup Review

Some reviews I just absolutely get giddy about. It doesn’t always happen often but every now and then I find a real gem and I can’t wait to write about it and share my experience while using it!

I recently tried out the new Redken Color Rebel Hair Makeup, and saying I’m completely hooked, is putting it lightly! I’m going completely nuts over it!

If you’re anything like me, you find hair coloring and highlights just way too much work to keep up on, not to mention visiting the salon often, and spending a fortune! I’m lazy, I hate upkeep, especially when it comes to my hair, so it’s rare I get my hair colored. But like any beauty-loving lady, I love color, and you can bet I miss not having some in my hair from time to time. While the extent of my braveness has only been highlights here and there or changing to a platinum blonde, black, or even being a red head a time or too, I’ve seen ladies with blue or purple, or even that fun pink streak, and I’ve been completely envious! I just didn’t quite have the guts to go all out colorful and like I said above, I’m just too lazy for the upkeep on some serious color like that!

Well when my Redken Color Hair Paint showed up, I wasted no time! I popped it open, quickly read the directions and applied!  It took me all of about 5 minutes to apply,  and I was immediately in love!

It’s incredibly easy to use! Just apply the sponge applicator, shake well, and apply! I tried the gold first as it is pretty close to my natural color and I knew it would be a good one to ease myself into this hair paint thing. I grabbed some big chunks on the left side of my head and started applying from the roots to the end, in thick strips. On my right side, I applied thinner strips, making it look a little more natural, and like natural highlights in my hair!

As you can see here, up close you can see the gold well, but standing back a little further, it looks completely natural right?

With Gold, used as highlights:

I loved the look I got using the gold, so after I took these pics, I got brave and decided to apply one big red streak on the right side, a layer under my part. Here are my pics with the gold and the red streak:
With Red:

So fun right? I was impressed to read that it stays in after a wash or two! I washed a few times and sure enough it stayed! it lightens up at the ends mostly, so I re-applied after my shower, but I could’ve totally got away with just leaving it as it was! Truth was, I was having so much fun playing with these colors, I WANTED to apply more! Over the last week, I’ve applied both the gold and red three different times. I keep getting braver and braver, and have started trying more looks too. Now I’m dying to get more colors and try them out too!

If you do mess up, don’t worry, just wash your hair a few times in a row and you will get it out.  You can also use Redken’s hair cleansing cream or Redken Diamond Oil Shatterproof shine oil to get it out right away. If you like the fact that you don’t have to apply after every shower, you will love using this hair paint. While it’s a FABULOUS idea for any Halloween Costume, I’m loving my hair paint so much, I’m using it all the time!

Redken’s color rebel hair paint deposits a very fine colored micro-coating  to the hair, which in turn makes it water-resistant, and it will also hold up to your brush, flat iron, or curling iron too!

When I applied this the first day, I wondered if it would rub off on my furniture or pillow that night, but it didn’t at all. Nor did it come off on my towel after washing my hair. The color really stays put. I was actually really impressed with this!

When applying, it goes on super smooth and doesn’t clump at all. Just be sure to open the bottle up over your sink. If it does get elsewhere, there is a good chance it will stain while it’s wet.
Also once applying the color to your hair, go light at first, you can always build on the color. I just hold the strand tight in my hand, then start applying at the top, and brushed down in a light, long sweeping motion. Then I layer over for a bolder effect!  I also brushed afterwards to smooth it out, though I don’t think I really even needed to do that.
I loved the effects the color left on my hair. I loved how natural the color looks, and I think, while I’m no hair stylist, that my red stripe actually looks pretty good, and like something you would get from the salon!

Are you excited to try this out for yourself? You should be! You’re going to love this! I can’t stop using it!  I know I will keep on using this and creating more fun looks for months to come! I can’t wait to try out their other colors, which include coral, pink, and purple, especially for a fun BOLD look this Halloween!
