How one chooses to decorate their home can tell a lot about a person’s interests and character. Scholars will have rooms full of books, fashionistas will layout lifestyle magazines and designer prints everywhere, while artists will have all kinds of art around the home. What about you? How do you incorporate your own personal style into your home?
Your occupation isn’t the only thing that should inspire your personal style, but it’s a good idea to start with. What you can also do is think about what makes you – you, and try showing it off through your home design.
Here are some tips on what you can focus your attention on to get the most out of your very own, personal home design and really let your personality be seen.
Consult your wardrobe for help
It’s not a great idea to just copy whatever you see in your closet and paste it all over your home, but searching through the closet can be a great inspiration boost when it comes to using your personal style in your home design. Take your time to carefully look at your favorite pieces, their texture, color, and design. Is your closet full of classy little black dresses, or is it more colorful and patterned in a boho manner?
Does your wardrobe seem eclectic and chaotic or is it more in line and carefully organized? All of this information can be of use to you to discover what you truly like and help you find a way to incorporate fashion into your home design.
Remember also that clothes and accessories can serve as marvelous home décor pieces on their own.
For example, if you are a fan of hats, let them lie on your couches as if they were pillows. You can also hang your patterned dresses as artwork, or decorate your walls with your worn-out necklaces.
Let your furniture speak about you
You shouldn’t ignore the fact that furniture in your home communicates your taste, as well as your personality. Everything about your furniture, from the materials you use to the colors, textures, and patterns tells the world something about you. So, don’t waste this chance to send the message you want.
You can show that you are eco-friendly by using light, natural colors and sustainable furniture, and also by letting a lot of light into your home. If you wish to show that comfort is of importance to you, then creating a reading nook by hanging a cozy egg chair next to your bookshelf will create this effect. Playing with shades and color hues can also be a great way to give your furniture a special, personal touch.
Show off your hobbies
If you don’t already have a hobby, then you should definitely find yourself one. On the other hand, if you already have a hobby which you are fond of, don’t be afraid to show it in your home décor. For those of you practicing artsy hobbies, you can place some of your most prized pieces to decorate your bookshelves, coffee tables or dining tables. If you practice reading or writing as your hobby, then printing and framing some of your favorite quotes can be a really personal décor statement.
Incorporating open shelving trends in your own personal home design is also a good idea to show more of yourself by putting a unique set of your personal pieces on display. You can make a themed wall and tell a personal story with your little home exhibition. However, it’s important not to overdo it and avoid creating themes that devour the whole room. Your personal décor should be a discrete way of showing who you are, but don’t let the room be only you and nothing more.
Finally, what’s most important is that you can truly be yourself in a home you’ve designed for yourself. Don’t be guided by other people’s likings, but make your own ideas come to life, and that’s all you will need. Let yourself go, be creative and you’ll know you did a good job when you hear people saying “this home is SO you”.
Happy Home Designing!

Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any tips and hints for first-time blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
