Four ways to choose a healthier tipple to toast with this holiday season:
1. Champagne is good.
Champagne grapes = polyphenols + studies show it can improve memory in women.
2. Drink aged spirits over un-aged.
The wood from the barrel infuses the spirit with polyphenols. For example, anejo tequila has more health benefits than silver.
3. Red wine better than white wine.
White wine = more sugar, very little antioxidants, etc.
Red wine = resveratrol, quercetin
4. When drinking red wine, choose cool-climate Pinot Noirs or wines from high elevations.
Pinot noir (especially from cool, rainy climates like Oregon) is good due to high concentrations of resveratrol Argentina elevation = high resveratrol. (Malbec, Cabernet) The higher in elevation the grape is grown, the higher the resveratrol is.
Happy Holidays!
