5 Must-Have Aromatherapy Moments for Your Day

Awe zen… How I could use it now. This week has been a rough one to say the least. On Monday I was served divorce papers by my husband, I got my heart broke on top of that, and In the midst of writing this post my trusty 6-year-old IMac desktop screen started flashing went to black, then died. Being that I rely on my blog for a living, and my computer to get me through, you could say my stress level currently is at an all-time high.

Luckily over the last few years, I’ve really gotten into meditation and even aromatherapy just recently, and it is amazing how much deep breathing and some learned relaxation techniques along with some relaxing scents can really help you achieve some balance and relief.

As my computer died I just happened to be using a new aromatherapy diffuser with a blend I just decided to try out this morning, of peppermint and Grapefruit. I actually started out my morning with this blend because I was feeling unmotivated, sad, and a bit stressed on top of it. I knew the rejuvenating scents of peppermint and grapefruit would help me get my day started on the right track, even if my day didn’t quite end up that way!

The Peppermint essential oil scent is known to be stimulating, vitalizing and cooling as well (another great perk to using this scent on a hot summer day such as today!). Grapefruit oil is great for providing a refreshing, tangy, clean scent, which also seems to drive me and help the creative spark flow!

Essential oils and Aromatherapy have become a real must-have in my home over the last year, and that is simply because they provide so many incredible benefits. Essential oils can be used for all types of different cleaning, and when the different scents are diffused through a diffuser, they can really help improve mood as well, which is exactly why I’ve really been relying on them a ton this week especially!

Some of my favorite ways to use aromatherapy at home:

1. For my daily use. I will start up my Earthly Elements™  Aromatherapy Diffuser by using one of my essential oils, or a blend of a couple or more, and place the filter and lid back over and click the power button on. I love that the scent immediately starts to fill my home with relaxing or mood-enhancing scents. I feel better prepared for my day and more motivated to get up and get going! I also really love how it seems to help inspire my creativity as well.

2. For a more Zenful, mind balancing Meditation. I will usually pick lavender or a mix of it with lemongrass and eucalyptus for my mediation as these scents are great for helping the mind achieve relaxation, balance, as well as helps soothe, comfort, and calm the mind and body.

  1. Yoga and Other Workouts.
Like meditation, yoga and other workouts can be enhanced by using aromatherapy. I specifically love to use the Thrive Blend by Nature’s Bounty® which gives off a lovely earthy, woody, cleansing and purifying scent. I will sometimes mix it with rosemary which gives off a lot of the same benefit. Lemongrass is another one as it is sweet, uplifting and refreshing as well, and leaves me feeling relaxed and rejuvenated while pushing my muscles harder, as well as helps aid in focus when holding those long balancing poses.

For more stimulating workouts such as cardio or weight training, I turn to peppermint once again. I love how stimulating it is at helping my mind and body work harder.

  1. In the car. I bet I have you wondering on this one, right? Typically this would be hard to do as most aromatherapy diffusers have to plug into an outlet. My lovely Earthly Elements diffuser,  however, does not. You have the option to plug it in, but it also has a compartment for 2 double A batteries, allowing you to take this diffuser with you on the go! I particularly love it in my car because this time of year is extra hot, I’m a little less patient in traffic and could use some lavender to help relax my mind and peppermint to help cool my body.

The opposite also works great when you’re out late and have a long drive ahead of you. That is when I once again kick in the peppermint oil to help wake me up and keep me alert!

  1. At Bed Time or in the Evening to Relax after a long day. This is another good time to break out the lavender for its calming properties or perhaps try some chamomile or a blend of both.

I often lie in bed on my phone going through emails, surfing the internet, and basically doing exactly what you shouldn’t to help the mind relax before bedtime. Adding some relaxing, calming scents to my diffuser really helps me unwind and I feel like I sleep a little bit better and more deeply too!

There are tons and tons of uses for aromatherapy products and essential oils in the home, but these are the five times throughout my day where I end up using them (and needing them!) the most!

Essential oils and aromatherapy are great for helping improve mood, relax the mind or stimulate the body, depending on what event you have going on during the day that you could use a little pick me up for! I keep mine handy at all times and use them constantly around my home. If anything they make a great inviting scent for your home!
